I wasn’t going to write today…..Just happy to be here in one piece. But then its important to keep on what I set out to do. Write my travels no matter the experience.
So ….. here you go.
Morning broke to rain. Forecast for Yellowstone is snow and high winds. Totally killed our trip through the park and south. The only option was to head via highway 20 and then interstate to salt lake. That was the only place that there was any sun.
The drive started uneventful with light rain and cold temperatures. I’m getting used to riding without the feelings in my hand.
We made it as far as Idaho Falls and took a short break.
I thought it would be fun to try going through a wild safari bear park with our motorbikes. Hey we went through Yellowstone with all the wildlife…..this is child’s play.
The ticked guy was quite surprised and said “no sir, you can’t ride through the park”
I pressed a little harder with comments that we have been through Yellowstone….its no big deal.
NO…..sir….please go.
Oh man the next few hours on the bike was pure hell!!!! It seem there is always a new level of fear I’ve reached. No sooner have I overcome tire blowout…..Ice and snow passes…. and now CROSSWINDS.
There is nothing more humbling than riding highway speeds with 50-60 mile an hour cross winds. The winds treated me like a rag doll, tossing from side to side. A raging white water river.
I still don’t know how I made it……maybe there is someone up there looking out for me. (smile) There are no pictures or video or anything. Just couldn’t stop and shoot anything. Rain and WIND…. I’ve never done that before. I don’t even have a wise crack or sarcastic comment to add…,,,,,just happy to make “solid ground” and a health respect for life.
One more day of riding though the hills (mountains) outside Salt Lake and ending at the Bonneville Salt Flats Then my trek back home. Should be real fun to drive on the salts.
